A Deliciously Herby, Sweet & Tangy Turkey Sandwich
This amazing Cranberry Turkey Sandwich will rival anything you can get at your local bistro! Stacked high with sliced turkey, havarti cheese, crispy lettuce, sweet and tangy cranberry sauce and a simple homemade herbed cream cheese. It is so flavorful and a fantastic way to use up leftover turkey.
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Cranberry Turkey Sandwich:
- Sliced Turkey– We used deli turkey. It’s also delicious with leftover roasted turkey or rotisserie chicken.
- Hearty Bread– We used a sturdy wheat bread. Because of the ingredients in this sandwich, you’ll want to use a good hearty bread here.
- Cranberry Sauce– We used canned cranberry sauce here, but I’ve also used my homemade cranberry sauce.
- Havarti Cheese– Havarti is a delicious smooth and creamy cheese. Other good options would be provolone cheese, Brie, Swiss cheese, or sliced Gouda.
- Lettuce– We used a green leaf lettuce. Romaine, arugula, or spinach are also good options!
- Cream Cheese– We used a full fat cream cheese. Neufchatel cheese or even Greek yogurt would work here.
- Chives– Fresh chives brings an herby, delicious subtle onion flavor. Green onions also work, or dried chives in a pinch.
- Poultry Seasoning– Poultry seasoning is a great blend of spices that gives this sandwich a Thanksgiving flair. If you don’t have this you can add a dash of dried thyme, sage, and rosemary.
- Salt & Black Pepper– Add to season.
How to Make a Turkey Cranberry Sandwich:
- Make the herbed cream cheese. In a small bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, minced chives, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper.
- Assemble the sandwiches. Spread a layer of cream cheese on each slice of bread. Top half of them with a slice of havarti cheese, lettuce, sliced turkey, and cranberry sauce. Top with the other slice of bread.
- Serve. Slice in half if desired. Enjoy!
Tips & Suggestions
Serve Warm
This sandwich makes a delicious toasted sandwich! When I do this, I leave out the lettuce. Spread the outside of the sandwich with softened butter or mayo. Use a panini press or skillet over medium heat to toast the sandwiches until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Variations and Substitions:
- Use leftover turkey, leftover chicken, or rotisserie chicken instead of deli turkey.
- Add thinly sliced red onions or tomatoes.
- Using up Thanksgiving leftovers? Leftover stuffing is delicious in this sandwich.

Leftover Sandwiches
This sandwich is best when enjoyed immediately. If there are leftovers, remove the lettuce and wrap in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last 1-2 days.
