Get ready to host a Halloween art party for kids, where creativity meets spooky fun! Here are a few simple ideas for a fun and crafty party!
We LOVE Halloween! There’s so much to enjoy during this trick-or-treat season: the spooky crafts, the pumpkin decorating, the yummy treats, and don’t forget costumes!
And what better way to enjoy all of those things together than with a kids’ Halloween art party?! Last October, the Artful Parent team threw a spooktacular party and everyone had a blast!
With a few simple crafts, pumpkin painting, and some easy treats, you can throw a Halloween art party, too! Plus, it’s another chance for your kids to wear their costumes (who doesn’t love that?)!
Here’s how we did it.
How to Throw a Halloween Art Party for Kids
1. Decorations
Our motto when planning any party: keep it simple. So, you don’t need to break the bank decorating for your party. First see what you can use from Halloween decorations bin, like old costumes, candy buckets, and the like. Next raid your house: glass bottles, twinkle lights, and candlesticks will all give you the right vibe for a Halloween party. If you need more, the dollar tree is a great, affordable resource for all kinds of decorations.
Finally, use a large piece of easel paper or kraft paper as a table covering and use a Sharpie marker to draw all kinds of Halloween designs and pictures on the paper.
2. Craft Stations
We’ve learned that the key to an artful party is to have some simple craft stations set up for kids to rotate through. These are open-ended activities, so that kids can come back to them over and over again if they like. Here’s what we did at our Halloween party:
- Table decorating: Leave your table clear except for the sheet of decorated easel paper, set out a cup of markers or tempera paint sticks and let kids color the table cover! Our kids loved coloring in the pumpkins, cats, and ghosts, and adding their own details, too!
- Pumpkin painting: You can’t have a Halloween party without pumpkins! We were able to get a small pumpkin for each child that came to the party. We set them out on the lawn with jars of washable paint and lots of glitter! Each child decorated their own pumpkin and brought it home at the end of the party. Want a less messy option? Use tempera paint sticks!
3. Artful Activities
If you need more activities to keep your kids engaged, a costume contest can be fun with categories like “Spookiest Costume,” “Most Sparkly Costume,” “Most Colorful Costume,” etc.
You can also check out some Halloween books from the library and lay them out in a cozy reading corner for your guests to enjoy.
4. Snacks
We love to have the creating continue even with party snacks, so we baked a couple dozen pumpkin-shaped cookies and set them out with bowls of orange frosting, eye candies, and sprinkles. You can also try an Artful Parent classic and draw jack-o’-lantern faces on clementines! If you need or want more snacks, remember, when in doubt, add eyeballs!
