School Specialty and the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF) teamed up again to makeover and reveal a new virtual reality classroom at Woodworth Monroe Academy in Inglewood, CA. This project is in continued support of School Specialty’s mission to “Transform More than Classrooms.”
Over the past months, School Specialty worked with Woodworth Monroe Academy to understand their goals, design an effective learning environment to achieve these goals, and outfit the room using School Specialty’s breadth of products along with other partners who helped pull the room together. On November 16, 2022, teachers, students, and Administrators from the school filed into the new classroom for the first look at this future-forward space which will open a world of learning possibilities thanks to a fresh environment and new technology including virtual reality capabilities, STEM robots, and a 3D printer.
This new innovative learning space offers students of Woodworth Monroe Academy access to career-focused experiential learning programs, also called Career and Technical Education (CTE). CTE prepares students with academic, technical, and employability skills for success in the workplace and in further education. In the National Career Clusters Framework, there are 16 Career Clusters representing 79 Career Pathways to help learners navigate their way to success in college and career (Source: https://careertech.org/career-clusters). Career pathways include Finance, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Architecture & Construction, and Health Science.
Dr. Sue Ann Highland, National Education Strategist with School Specialty said, “thanks to this immersive education experience, more kids will be excited about learning. And more kids excited about learning means greater engagement and a richer long-term learning and career trajectory. It’s an honor to support the students of Woodworth Monroe Academy with this special space and we applaud leadership within the school and district for their forward-thinking outlook on curriculum and learning environments.”

Within the room, School Specialty donated furnishings from their proprietary brand, Classroom Select, as well as Creativity Construct Wall Art from Davison and Inventionland. STEM robot kits were provided by EZ Robot.
School Specialty and CFPF, including their Extra Yard for Teachers Makeover Program, hold a long-standing relationship and partnership with each entity holding a shared mission to improve educator resources and access to better learning opportunities for children. This marks the 42nd makeover project School Specialty has completed, with a variety of other makeovers projected in Southern California over the coming months.
