Camping parties are truly the best of both worlds, don’tcha think? All the excitement and creativity of “the great outdoors”, plus the luxury of fully functioning, air-conditioned bathrooms whenever nature actually calls. ????
These camping party ideas were originally designed for a magazine spread I did about creative ways to “camp out” at home. There’s plenty of inspiration here for camping themed birthday parties or backyard campouts of any size though!
Camping Printables
BTW – I also expanded on the printable designs pictured here to create an entire *customizable* camping party collection! It’s available in my store in 2 colorways: Camp Out PINK and Camp Out NAVY. You can edit the custom text yourself – right on the website – whenever (and as often as) you need to!
Retro Charm
My friend has the cutest pink & white vintage trailer that’s she’s dubbed “Grace”, so of course we made it the star of the show!
I added some DIY banners to the outside of the trailer + stuck honeycomb balls all over the inside of the door.
Colorblock Banner
This colorful banner is a “semi-DIY” project. This is my favorite type of DIY, because you can still make something your own, but with a little less work! ???? I bought the burlap triangle panels in a pack (they were pre-cut + had grommets), then added the paint accents myself.
There’s no hard and fast rule that you HAVE to stick to earth tones for camping parties, right?! Summer happens to be the perfect time to bring on the bright colors!
If you’re feeling extra crafty, make a festive party garland out of colorful feathers and wooden beads.
Stick Man Nature Craft
Step 1: Send kids hunting for sticks from around the yard or a nearby park.
Step 2: Set out various craft supplies that they can use to transform their finds into “stick people” or other imaginative creations. Elements like yarn, googly eyes, feathers, washi tape, and stickers are easy to work with and won’t make a big mess!
Easy Campfire Cake
Serving up a creative, camping-inspired cake is easier than you think! First, top your favorite chocolate cake with pirouette cookie “logs”. Next, add crushed butterscotch and cinnamon candy “embers”.
For the finishing touch, top with colorful paper flames. Click here for the full recipe + free printable flame topper!
Give ‘Em S’more!
It’s hard to beat good ol’ fashioned s’mores – especially when there’s a place for roasting marshmallows nearby! Don’t have access to a fire pit? No problem! You can still get your s’mores fix with one of these tasty, make-ahead alternatives:
S’mores Munchie Mix
For a yummy twist on the popular Muddy Buddies treat, try a s’mores version! Incorporate Golden Grahams cereal, mini marshmallows, and extra milk chocolate. A variety of recipes can be found online, or click here for my personal favorite.
S’mores Bites
Dip large marshmallows halfway (and generously) into melted milk chocolate. Then, roll the chocolate-coated part in finely crushed graham cracker crumbs. Place on wax paper to dry.
The Simple Things
One of the best things about many camping-inspired activities is their simplicity. Try stargazing, card games, nature scavenger hunts, and storytelling ‘round the campfire – or with flashlights! (And if you’re telling stories, don’t forget the popcorn!) ????????
Camping Party Printables
Camping themes work great for birthday parties, just-for-fun parties, and even creative baby/bridal showers. (I would seriously LOVE to use this theme for a baby shower!) Whatever the occasion, I designed this fun Camp Out party collection (in Pink/Aqua or Navy/Tan) to make it super easy to throw a camping-inspired soirée in style. ????
