Can Children Use Charcoal Toothpaste? | MomDocs

Sometimes parents ask us if their kids can use charcoal toothpaste, usually to whiten yellow teeth. This is a tough question to answer since charcoal toothpaste is still relatively new. This means there isn’t a whole lot of research, studies, and overall information on the impacts of charcoal toothpaste, particularly in regard to children. Because of this, Dr. Hahn, Pediatric Dentrist at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, feels it’s best to stick to a more traditional toothpaste for your kids.

As permanent teeth come in, their large roots and nerves can be very sensitive. These roots and nerves continue to grow even after the teeth first develop. Because of this sensitivity, you should use gentler kinds of toothpaste and stay away from whitening products entirely while those teeth are developing. Every child is different, so if you have any concerns about your child’s teeth or oral health, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s dentist.
