Drawing of a Groundhog
Here’s a fun way for students to draw a groundhog, complete with the burrow that it is famous for crawling out of on Groundhog Day. It needn’t be a detailed drawing – the shapes can be pretty simple and still look like this very cute and furry animal.
Drawing a groundhog brings to mind the unusual holiday called Groundhog Day, which is celebrated every year on Feb. 2nd. It stretches back hundreds of years to European traditions and even ancient times. It seems there was a Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerged from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it would retreat to its den and winter would go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.
These days it’a fun kind of holiday to celebrate, and it’a good excuse to make your drawing project of the day, all about groundhogs!
