School Specialty® and the College Football Playoff Foundation® (CFPF) share a common goal to improve educator resources and provide children with access to better learning opportunities. This goal is supported by both organizations through CFPF’s Extra Yard for Teachers® program. With that vision in mind, we headed to Hobby Elementary School in Texas with tools in hand for a modern media center makeover!
Hobby Elementary is a PK-5 dual-language academy in the Houston Independent School District (HISD). The teachers and staff work hard to provide a challenging curriculum to their 500+ student population, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Principals and teachers, along with parents and other community members, are committed to preparing Hobby Elementary students for life after school. This new learning space will support Hobby Elementary in its mission to “connect student lives and their future in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.”

The new media center marks the 46th makeover collaboration between School Specialty and CFPF. Since 2015, our partnership has completed learning environment upgrades in 31 school districts across 11 states, with more on the way!
School Specialty and our Projects by Design® experts worked with the school to design a space that better supports their needs and drives outcomes. Our goal was to complement their style of teaching and learning with a contemporary, welcoming space and flexible seating options from our Classroom Select® proprietary furniture line. This new learning space will inspire teachers and students to collaborate, learn, and grow, and is just one more step in School Specialty’s mission of Transforming More Than Classrooms.
In addition to the furniture, School Specialty also donated art and STEAM supplies to fill the furnished space. Congratulations to Hobby Elementary on your new media center!
